Rubicon Audition

As the end of the academic year got closer and closer, I realised that my aspirations for the future had changed. Although I originally wanted to go into medicine, specifically dermatology, I realised that my love and passion for dance overpowered it and made me no longer wish to continue with my studies at A-level. Thus making me search for full-time education and training in dance, where I found the organisation ‘Rubicon Dance’. After doing my own research, I decided that that was the place I wished to go to. While looking through the requirements and application process, I noticed that I needed an audition video, leading me to create this. Within my current A-level dance class, I had to focus on creating the group choreography for my piece ‘Blood In The Water’, and so I had no time within the scheduled classes to prepare and record any type of audition tape. But after asking my teacher if it was possible to come in early to record, I was able to start preparing. I quickly decided on a song and made sure to listen to it as much as possible. This is because I had no space or time to actually physicalize my movements and, as a result, ended up improvising for the entire performance. This made it so there were times I was unsure and times where I stopped moving completely, as I had no improvisation experience at the time. I believe that my improvisation skills have improved massively during my training, and if given the opportunity or time to rework or look over this particular performance, I would love to show how far I have developed. For example, I would love to show how I am no longer scared or embarrassed to make a sound while dancing, like hitting the floor, and that I know I am allowed to move freely as there is no right or wrong within improvisation.
